Indoor Biological Pollutants

You’d be surprised if you knew how many harmful chemicals, toxins, & pollutants your seemingly clean home is harboring. From the air fresheners (chemicals) we use to our cute furry pets (pet dander), these things are releasinginto the air we are breathing. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) are widely used in common housecleaning products such as wood preservatives, automotive products, paints, disinfecting products and dry-cleaned clothing just to name a few. According to the EPA, VOC’s have caused headaches, loss of coordination, damage to liver & kidneys and the central nervous system. Some VOCs have been known to cause cancer in animals & humans as well.
Formaldehyde is one of the most common VOC’s. Formaldehyde is used in cosmetics, furniture, carpet deodorizers, cigarettes, building materials and much more. Small doses of Formaldehyde is enough to cause serious health problems such as cancer and neurological problems in people. Formaldehyde used to be used widely as an insulating material, but was banned by the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission in 1982…yet we still have it in virtually everything else we use.
Other common biological contaminants in your home are animal dander, droppings from insects, pests and rodents, bacteria (releases disease-causing toxins), viruses (chicken pox, influenza, measles etc.)
You may experience digestive problems, sneezing, shortness of breath, coughing, fever, and a lethargic feeling with low levels of exposure to indoor pollutants. To help reduce your exposure to indoor pollutants invest in a quality dehumidifier to keep in the basement. Also exhaust fans help in the kitchen and bathroom to help keep them well ventilated. I only use Snap Cleaning Products because they are safe, all-natural, earth-friendly products that last forever and get the job done!
Breathe easier with green plants. Plants give off oxygen and help to remove harmful chemicals in homes like Formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. House plants have also been known to calm people and reduce stress levels. Some time ago, NASA did a study lasting two years ago on the health benefits of 19 green plants. What they found is certain house plants are very efficient in absorbing and processing gases for photosynthesis. These plants absorb many harmful gases and toxins from your home naturally. The most efficient plants for having a healthy, green home are peace lilies, palm plants, bamboo palms, and english ivy.
